458 Players Involved in Continuous Game of Rugby

It was a real community effort to reach our target of more than 442 players participating in a continuous game of rugby as part of the Haddington 700 celebrations today. Players from as far afield as Kinross, Stirling, as well as across the whole Lothian region, took part in a game which ran for around 6 hours.

Highlights of the day include visits from our 4 internationalist guests (some lucky players also took to the park with Stuart McInally and Sarah Law!). In total 458 players were active in the game; we now need to await the adjudication of Guinness to confirm if a world record has been broken. The current record was set in 2015 in Richmond, London by school children from 32 local schools.

Huge thanks go to everyone who took part or assisted to make the day a success. We would like to thank our Provost, John McMillan for kicking off the game, Royal Bank of Scotland for their backing and army of helpers, Edinburgh Rugby, Scottish Rugby, Wooden Spoon, and the football team who raced back from Livingston to help us get over the line!

This will certainly go down as one of the most memorable sporting events to have been held at Neilson Park.

Rugby was the real winner.
