Help make a difference in our Community

“I wish Haddington RFC all success in their world record bid. Delighted that raising funds for disadvantaged children is an integral part of the day”
- Gavin Hastings, Honorary President of Wooden Spoon

Haddington RFC strives to be at the heart of the community. We take pride in the number of girls and boys who regularly play rugby at the club and our School of Rugby at Knox Academy. We see the impact that rugby can have on young lives, for example in learning about discipline, mutual self respect, and leadership.

We are all too aware, however, that there are a number of children in our region, and throughout Scotland, who may not have the same opportunities. This can often be as a result of disability or a disadvantage that children have to cope with.

As a club, we want to do all we can to make sure that all children are given opportunities to grow, develop, and succeed regardless of the difficulties they face, or whether they play for one of our teams.

In 2017, we joined the Wooden Spoon Partner Club Programme. Wooden Spoon funds projects across the UK and Ireland to support disadvantaged and disabled children such as respite, medical treatment centres, sensory rooms, specialist playgrounds, sports activity areas and equipment, and other community based programmes.

All of the funds raised for Wooden Spoon through Haddington RFC stays in our own community to fund local causes and projects.

Our major initiative this summer is the attempt to break the world record for the most players in a rugby match. We hope that the more people we can involve in the event, the bigger the difference we make in young people's lives will be.
