Haddington colts victorious in local derby...
Haddington colts were keen to improve on last weeks performance against Ross High, in Agamemnon where they scored six tries but failed to get out of second gear..
Preston Lodge were the visitors to Neilson Park this week and the Scarlett's had endured a hard but fruitful weeks training in mprep for a physical encounter against a well drilled side.
Haddington started the game strongly and witha few minutes on the clock, stretched the ball wide and young Ben Sandie raced up the line to score a superb try. Harveeeee added the extras and the reds were on the march.
Preston lodge got a hold of the game, and with there driving forwards made several good breaks which the home defence did very well to keep out. Haddington rallied from this resolute defence with several good phases and Nick Stewart scored the first of his three tries of the afternoon. Harveeee again added the extras...
Preston lodge again rallied taking a penalty and then a converted try to pull the scores close at half time...
Haddington with a rollicking ringing in there ears from a half time "chat" played the second half with a renewed intensity. Some of the continuity rugby was excellent and the confidence spread through the squad. Jack Hamilton and Nicholas Stewart started to click at half back and the ball was shipped wide readily to good effect...
Further tries for Nick Stewart x2, Jack Hamilton, Neil Black and the pick of the bunch from Mark Robertson carrying out a training ground move to perfection... Harveeee added a further three conversions...
Preston lodge did not lie down and kept battering away... They added a further try, how ever haddingtons work rate in attack and defence meant that they finished the game on a high at 45-17.
In an excellent squad performance, standouts were again Gavin Stewart, with Nick Stewart taking his hatrick well... (where's my pint)' and shorty Jack Hamilton, who had an excellent second half...
Very happy this week although a bit of work needed at ruck time... The hard graft on the training paddock is coming to the fore for what is a very very young side... Futures bright boys...!
