Hadley Wood & Wingate 5 - 1 Wormley Rovers
Hadley Wood & Wingate back to winning ways
Hadley Wood & Wingate came back from the disappointing draw on Thursday night to Evergreen with a dominant 5-1 victory at home to Wormley Rovers including four goals from Elliott Bailey.
Things didn't do quite go to plan to begin with on 8 minutes for Hadley Wood however, with Wormley having the first opportunity to score in the match in what could have made the game very different. Hadley Wood gave the ball away in their own half and Wormley came down the left hand side. The cross beat Ross Weinrabe who came to claim the ball and fell to Aaron Ramthor who had the whole goal to aim at but his shot slammed off the bar and away to safety.
It was a rare chance for Wormley throughout the game and one they were left to rue when Hadley Wood took the lead on 16 minutes. Khalil Zakkour, playing centre back, came forward with the ball from the back and played a one-two with Cameron Lyttle which took him to the by-line. He managed to get a low cross into the box which fell to Charlie Harris who slotted home to give Hadley Wood a deserved 1-0 lead.
The majority of the first half was dominated by Hadley Wood, however, a lapse at the back on the stroke of half time from a long ball from the Wormley keeper deceived the defence and Josh Anyanwu was put in one-on-one with Weinrabe. Anyanwu put the ball into the back of the net giving Weinrabe no chance.
Hadley Wood went into half time highly disappointed giving the goal away but calm words from Frankie Webb in the dressing room got them focused on the job at hand and the second half was one of the most dominant of the season so far although it took until 79 minutes before the scoring began. Lyttle picked up the ball in the Wormley half and put a cross into the box. The cross was cleared but only to the edge where Elijah Gabsi was waiting. He faked a shot to turn one defender and then hit a shot which again was blocked but fell to Elliott Bailey and the Hadley Wood striker but in a clinical finish for 2-1.
On 86 minutes the match was won when Bailey picked up his second of the game to make it 3-1 when a poor goal kick from Wormley fell to Harris who ran at the defence. With options right and left, he chose to slide the ball through to Bailey who shot across the keeper inside the far post form the edge of the six yard box.
Bailey picked up his hat trick in the 90th minute when Gabsi had the ball on the edge of the area again and squared the ball to Bailey to put the ball into the net giving the Wormley keeper no chance.
And the scoring for Bailey wasn't over when he grabbed his 4th of the game in stoppage time. A defensive error from Wormley put Harris through on the right side of the box. His pass was pulled back to the edge of the area where Gabsi was once again. Gabsi had a clear chance to strike the ball himself but unselfishly slid the ball through to Bailey to score and make it 5-1 to Hadley Wood & Wingate.
