Past Players
Without a doubt one of our best players of the past few years is Leon Legge. Leon is a tall, powerful central defender, and captained Hailsham Town at 17, before moving on to Lewes, Tonbridge Angels and now Brentford. He has just been given another years contract by the West London club, and was awarded Player of the Round for the FA Cup recently - setting him up for a VIP trip to Wembley. I gave him a call to ask a few questions.
SF; Congratulations on winning Player of the Round in the FA Cup - who are you looking forward to seeing at Wembley?
Leon; 'I'm a Chelsea fan, and I'm taking my brother who supports Liverpool, so a Chelsea-Liverpool final would be great!'
SF; You've come a long way - do you miss anything about Non League Football?
Leon; 'Well I'm training every day, so not really - I definatley don't miss having to travel to training straight after work and that - but we had a laugh, and I do miss the banter'
SF; Any memories of your time at Hailsham?
Leon; 'Kenny's little rants! Really used to enjoy the banter in the changing rooms with Frenchie and Russ Tanner and a few others. We had some good nights out too, I enjoyed it down there'
SF; Any advice for other young County League players who want to work their way up?
Leon;
'Stick at it. It's hard work but if you keep at it you've got a chance. If you believe in yourself then you can go far. There's a bit of luck involved, but in my case it's worked out - you never know who is watching, so always give it your best shot'
We would like to wish Leon all the best for the future - hopefully his career will continue to go from strength to strength.
