Bogus Football Scout

Urgent Email from West Riding FA regarding a Bogus Football Scout.

To all League & Club Welfare Officers.

I have been contacted by Chris Whelan, Chairman at Alverthorpe Juniors (Wakefield) to advise that he was approached (approx 3 weeks ago) by a man claiming to be a scout from Leeds United. He was asking for several of the players names (U15’s). He was asked for ID, which he could not produce and was not wearing any official Leeds United clothing. He was asked to leave by the Alverthorpe coaching staff. This took place at the Edward Sutch Playing Fields, Homestead Drive, Flanshaw, WF2 9PE.

I have contacted Leeds United and they have confirmed that this was not one of their scouts.

Can I ask that you disseminate this information to all within your Leagues and Clubs and ask that all coaches, parents and players remain vigilant at all times. I have attached the FA guidance regarding football scouts. Please do not be afraid to challenge anyone who says they are a scout and if they can not provide identification please ask them to leave or contact the Police should they refuse to go. If you can get a description of the ‘bogus scout’ please let me have this ASAP so that we can circulate this to all Leagues and Clubs.

Thank you all for your continued support in helping make Junior football a safe and fun environment for all our children.

Regards
Paul
