Hall Road Rangers came up against their stiffest of Pre-season opponents on Saturday as they took on NCEL first division side Worsbrough Bridge Athletic at home. Rangers ran out clear winners putting three well worked goals past a young Worsbrough side who only managed one in return. Player Manager Jamie Barnwell was “delighted” after the game “the way we approached the game, our tempo and passing was spot on” Barwell stated. Barnwell sighted young 18 year old central defender Phil Winn as outstanding “his desire, positioning and commitment is spot on”. Winn put in a staunch performance clearing everything that came his way. Despite his performance man of the match was handed to forward Matty Farthy who put in an athletic performance up front, holding up the ball well and causing trouble for Worsbrough defenders.
The opening goal came after only 10 minutes when Owen Mountain rounded the keeper and tapped home an easy goal. Worsbrough clawed one back after 10 minutes of the second half with a sublime 25 yard volley from debutant Ash Morley. The lead didn’t last long however as a deflected half volley from Rangers’ Johnny Slater sent the keeper the wrong way. Quality and fitness showed after that and resulted in another debutant scoring, Jordan Cox with his first attempt on goal brought the ball under control, shrugged off the attention of a defender and cooly slotted home from close range.
An outstanding result all round for Rangers who end their preseason friendlies unbeaten with this 3-1 win. The season starts with a great opening game on Saturday the 4th August against Scarborough Athletic. Athletic did the double over Hall Road last season so Rangers will be out to get a bit of early revenge. Chairman Mark Gregory has promised a carnival atmosphere at Dene Park with marquis and entertainment to try and draw in the crowds to this important season opener. Kick off will be at 3pm.
