Hampton and Richmond Youth U16 Bucks v Balham Colts U16
Sunday 24 September 2017
A beautiful morning and with a depleted team of players and parents, the boys went out determined to play well. Matt Liddiard kindly stepped in as linesman for the second week and Samir from the opposition kindly stepped into the breach as referee for our 10 man team. Thank you Balham for all your help and understanding.
Unfortunately Matt is off after 8 minutes and from a corner Balham score 0-1. this leaves the boys only 9 on the pitch and running their socks off.
There was some great blocking from the defence of Kieran, Nick and James assited by Arran.
Balham score from a second corner at 12 minutes to bring the score to 0-2 but this did not bring the boys down. The boys were doing a fantastic job with only 9 players.
In the 15th minute George made a great attempt on goal but sadly for us it was saved.
Rory starts to limp but fortunately carries on.
The boys keep running and in 20th minute Majd takes a corner which was saved but it went back to be knocked in by George 1-2
The boys continue to work very hard and Majd takes a free kick defended by the opposition
Balham take a corner but it runs in front of goal for whole team to make a sterling effort and keep it out followed shortly by a great save by Will
In the 43rd minute, again the whole team contribute to keep the ball out of the net. A great show of team play from all.
In the 54th minute George scores another goal in a brilliant display of determination 2-2.
In the 61st minute a free kick was given for a tackle on George, Majd takes it but it is saved by their keeper with Nick contributing a great header.
Charlie provides great support with some excellent passing.
Unfortunately there was an own goal as there was a desperate attempt by the defenders to keep the ball out 2-3.
With the boys so clearly tired after running consistently for 75 minutes, the lack of two players was starting to take its toll as the score went to 2-4 as the opposition score another goal and just before the final whistle the opposition score again 2-5.
The boys worked really hard against a fair and sportsmanlike Balham Colts, well done boys.
