LATE GOALS ENDS LOSING STREAK
Two late goals from Josh Thorpe & Dan Cope helped get Hanley Town back to winning ways against an inform City of Liverpool side at Potteries Park on saturday.
First effort on goal came on 3minutes when Town's Shelley fired over the crossbar with a 25yard freekick after Faulkner was brought down.Ten minutes later Hanley's Cope volleyed over from a Thompson flick on.On 19minutes Shelley's freekick from the right found it's way through to Thorpe at the far post only to fire his shot into the sidenetting.
The visitor's created a good chance on 22minutes when Forbes latched onto a long clearance only to lift the ball over the crossbar.After 32minutes Peterson for the visitor's cut inside from the right only to drag his 15yard shot just wide of the post.Two minutes later a surging run by CoLFC midfielder Hazelhurst into the Town penalty area was stopped with a superb well timed tackle by Town defender Thorpe.
On 41minutes a Town freekick from the left by Shelley was headed back across goal by Thorpe to Cope whose close range header went straight at the keeper Ascoft.Right on half-time Hanley almost took the lead,good link up play between Fauklner and Thompson allowed Thompson to find Ashton whose run and low cross from the right flew across inside the visitor's 6yard box with Thorpe,Cope and Conlon a stud length away from opening the scorering.A minute later Conlon sharp turn and 15yard shot over the crossbar from an Ashton pass.

Two minutes into the second half Thorpe headed just wide at the back post from a Conlon corner.Three minutes later the visitor's had a great chance to take the lead,a Forbes cross from the right found Peterson unmarked only for him to head straight at Town keeper Morton.Minutes later Conlon 20yard shot was deflected for a corner,a minute later Town's Cope 20yard shot was blocked,Cope latched onto the loose ball only to fire just over the crossbar.
On the hour mark Connolly raced into the Hanley penalty area only for a superb covering tackle by Thorpe denied Connolly getting a shot at goal.Two minutes later Morton saved a Peterson shot from distance.Two minutes later Town's Thorpe near post header just went wide of the post from a Sheldon corner.On 66minutes Hanley's Thompson was almost through in on goal but for a superb defensive tackle with Ashton's following up to fire a goalbound shot only for another defensive block by the visitor's.
A minute later a Cope freekick from the right to the far post found the unmarked Thorpe only to head inches wide of the post.On 77minutes the visitor's had a great chance themselves a ball slipped through to Hazelhurst just inside the Town penalty area but the midfielder dragged his shot wide of the post.On 82minutes CoLFC's Sharkey found himself in space only to head over from close range.
Hanley took the lead on 83minutes a DAN SHELLEY clipped freekick to the left found JON SHELDON whose jinking run and cross to the back post found the unmarked JOSH THORPE to head down into the back of the net.Hanley wrapped up the points two minutes from time,BEN BLOWERS won a tackle in midfield the loose ball was latched onto by DAN COPE who raced clear to fire under CoLFC's keeper Ascoft for an hard earned three points.
