Whilst the Rugby playing season has come to an end, one might be forgiven for thinking that there is little going on down at Waterloo Fields. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Just like your lawns, grass has been growing like crazy and with around 10 acres to keep in check the pitches have been cut once if not twice some weeks. Where Michael’s tractor is unable to get in amongst the copse, Chris brings his long reach flail to keep the grass down whilst also keeping the verge and ditches tidy. That only then leaves a final walk round with a strimmer to complete the job before we start all over again!
In addition to all that, Richard has been preparing the cricket square keeping it clear of weeds, using the heavy roller and cutting the strip three sometimes four times during the week before a match.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Classic Car night due to be held in June was cancelled at short notice by the organiser and the event is being moved to another venue for the remainder of the year. The event was increasing in popularity at each meeting but unfortunately the event is not organised by the Rugby Club and we apologise to those who were disappointed and made a fruitless journey that night.
Seniors pre- season training starts on Tuesday 3 July at 7:00pm and will continue on Thursdays and Tuesdays. If you are a seasoned rugby player, new to the area or interested in taking up the game just come along and join us.
The U13s and U14s are holding a regular Tuesday night training session starting around 6:30pm and would welcome new players to join them.
Harbury Rugby Club embodies all that is good in sport for young people and the MIni and Junior section welcomes players of all levels of ability from U6s to U15s. Our coaches have all the necessary Rugby Football Union qualifications and generally stay with the teams that they coach as they progress through the age ranges. We provide team kit at negotiated rates and have boot amnesties to allow new players to start with us cost effectively. We, of course, comply with the RFU’s stringent requirements on safeguarding and data protection and fully endorse the RFU’s values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship
Our season contains many fixtures played home and away against local clubs and after every game there is always food and drinks in the clubhouse. We also run a minis festival and tours and events throughout the year. For example this year our U14s went on tour to South Wales which combined a visit to a mine with a local rugby festival the following day. We also have trips to Wasps games attended by the whole club with coaches laid on from the club house.
