On another hot day Richie managed to lose the 5th consecutive toss and North Leeds decided to bat first. James Halliday
(Chimpy) and Lengy opened the bowling, but couldn't find an early breakthrough needed until Lengy had Tim Hollis (21) caught at mid on by Woody with a brilliant diving catch, 48-1. Captain Rob Winter came to join Boxell and had the score moving quickly into the 80's and 90's, however Richie was swapping the bowling around replacing Ben with Chimpy, but to no avail, at which point we were staring down the barrel of a massive score! Richie came on for Lengy and Jimmy S was brought into the attack to replace Ben and this is when the game turned on it's head. A widish ball had the dangerous left hander, Winter caught at point by Ben. At this point wickets fell rapidly, as the North Leeds batsmen had no answer to Richie and Jimmy's bowling. Kellaway was bowled by Richie and Burke was caught by Andy off Jimmy's bowling, the dangerous Big Baz was next to fall repeating Winter's shot to Ben at point. Jimmy bowled George Wales and in the next over Boxell, who had made 64 was bowled by Richie. Next ball Khan fell lbw and the ball after Steve Wales suffered the same fate of lbw, to bring Richie a well deserved hat trick. Guy Hollis came in at 10 and started to smash the ball to all parts, which had the HCC spectators thinking a last stand like the Alamo was on the cards, but it wasn't to be, as Jimmy cleaned him up with another lbw for 19. Richie ended his spell with 8 overs 6-31, ably supported by Jimmy 10.2 overs 3-28 and Lengy 12 overs 1-32. Chimpy and Ben were wicketless this time but a great fielding and bowling display had North Leeds ending on 147 all out.
Our innings got off to a great start as the Wear boys once again got us off to a flyer, with Richie taking on the North Leeds attack. We were up to 85 before Richie hit the ball straight back to Khan to fall for 58 runs made in 64 balls. With the score on 89, Andy was next to go playing an uncharacteristic slog and was bowled for 23. This brought Ben in with Jimmy and with some good attacking shots from both batsmen ensured we passed the North Leeds total finishing on 148-2. Both batsmen making decent scores, with Jimmy ending on 35no and Ben 23no. This win has put us on top of the table again, after Ilkley beat Rawdon, but there are still tough games to play and the next two weeks will be the toughest yet. Green Lane are the visitors to HCC on Saturday, one of the teams to come down with Rawdon last season. Pool the week after away is another massive tester, but with spirits running high throughout the side who knows? good luck boys keep up the good work for Nosebleed CC........Rovin'
