As Winter draws to a close, the Haringey Rhino’s hosted Harlequins Ladies at Home their North London home for the penultimate game for the 2016/2017 Season.
It was a tough game to walk into for the Rhino’s with a couple of our starting line-up out of action due to injury and illnesses. This led to playing a number of players out of position. An early try from the Quins was countered by Rhinos pressure earning them penalties and field position deep in the Quins half. A try was secured for the Rhinos by Katy Rogers, showing her strength to drive over the line. The conversion was made to put the Rhinos in front.
The Quins were able to pick up their second try late in what was a tightly contested first half. Half time with the Quins edging ahead after their second try
Battling the Quins and the wind made progress slow going in the second half with the remnants of Storm Doris blowing against our kicks and line-outs. The Rhino’s lost three forwards to injuries during the half, necessitating further position changes and tweaking of the pack on the fly. The Quins were able to capitalise on these changes, taking the ball up the side to score additional tries with the final score standing at 7-43.
Forwards coach, James Ballard, had this to say of the match:
"A strong show of early defence by the Rhinos was worn away by a strong and relentless Quins attack. The Rhinos played with great passion and saw a fantastic debut by new player Patricia Mbata. The season isn't over, we still have work to do, but I think we can hold our heads high given how far we've come since last season."
Players Player and Biggest Hit went to newcomer Patricia Mbata who played an amazing first game. Well done Pat!
