Former Club Captain J R (Joe) Andrew has passed away at the age of 87.
Our condolences go out to the family of Joe Andrew whose funeral was held at Dundee Crematorium today 31st Jan.
John Andrew (better known as Joe)was born in Glasgow and attended Jordanhill where he trained as a PE Teacher before taking up a post at Harris Academy in Dundee. While at Harris, not only did he teach our own Davie Stibbles but he also played rugby for the FP side. Joe played for the North & Midlands side against the Springboks at Aberdeen in 1951 and was also Club Captain from 1950 to 1953, captaining the Club Team to Victory in the Midlands 7s Trophy in 1953. Joe later became head of PE at Stobswell and became a founder member of Stobswell Rugby Club before finishing his teaching career at Monifieth High. He was a keen musician and played double base with the East Coast Jazzmen.
Our thoughts are with Joe's family at this time and a minutes silence will be held prior to Club Matches this weekend, as a mark of respect.
