Railway started the game well with good passing and movement but the only thing lacking was the final ball. Rail nearly caught out Prescot as they took a quick corner. Liam Gray swung in a dangerous cross but Luke Durham and Paul Beesley
just failed to make any contact. They were not having it all their own way as Prescot looked dangerous on the break especially down our left with Phil Cooney wide and Steven Tames in the middle. These two combined to create Prescot’s first chance but Craig Parry came to the rescue as he came out and blocked Tames shot. Prescot were suddenly causing the Rail defence problems and just on the half hour mark Rail had a lucky escape as Phil Lindley was booked for a late challenge that was perilously close to being inside the penalty area. It was the Cooney/Tames combination midway through the half that really should have resulted in Prescot taking the lead. The cross in from our right was inch perfect as Tames found himself alone in the area but somehow from near in headed the ball against the foot of Craig Parry’s right-hand post. Rail had already been warned but they were eventually punished as yet another cross in from Cooney caused the Rail defence to panic and Luke Danville brought down Steven Tames inside the area and were awarded a penalty. Up stepped Tames and sent Craig the wrong way for our visitors to take a deserved lead.

Railway responded well and were on level terms within five minutes of the restart. Dan Thirkell
threaded a lovely through ball into the path of Paul Beesley
down Prescot’s right. Paul took a couple of touches on the ball inside the area before sliding the ball low past Steve Longrett into the far corner of the net.

Railway simply didn’t have any answer to all the problems that Phil Cooney was causing and with five minutes before the interval he was put through once again but this time with no one to aim for he decided to have a go himself but his shooting didn’t match his crossing and his effort was well wide of the mark.
HALF-TIME: HARROGATE RAILWAY 1 PRESCOT CABLES 1
The second-half started with the Rail defence fast asleep as within five minutes they had 2 good chances to retake the lead but Craig Parry came to the rescue as Steven Tames found himself free inside the area from a cross in from our right. Tames shot was good but Craig made a good reflex save to put the ball out for a corner. A minute later down the same side of the pitch Prescot were in again but the cross cum shot was just wide of the mark. Both teams just after the hour mark make a couple of substitutions to see if they could retake the lead. On 70 minutes Rail nearly did as Colin Hunter
’s cross cum shot ended up over the keeper and onto the top of the crossbar but Prescot were still looking dangerous as they went forward. A move down their left ended up with the Rail defence being outnumbered inside our own area and just as though it looked as they were going to score Wayne Harratt came to the rescue as he just managed to toe poke the ball away just as the attacker was about to shoot. That was only a let off as with only 3 minutes remaining Prescot regained the lead. It was as though the Rail defence had frozen as they progressed down our right again. The ball fell to substitute Tony James inside the area and his shot evaded all the defenders and found the bottom left-hand corner of the net as Craig Parry was left helpless to do anything about it.
HARROGATE RAILWAY 1 PRESCOT CABLES 2 (James 87)
It could have been a whole lot worse a moment later as Fred Potter’s shot was saved by Craig’s legs. It looked as though Prescot were going to take all 3 points but a minute into injury-time Rail were awarded a corner on our right. Colin Hunter
’s cross was cleared back to him but this time his far post cross was inch perfect as he found Luke Danville who stabbed the ball home from just about on the goal line.
HARROGATE RAILWAY 2 PRESCOT CABLES 2 (Danville 90+1)
There was barely enough time to restart as the referee blew his whistle for full-time.
