A New Season....
The new season is nearly upon us and we are just one week away from the first 1st XV warm up game v Hillhead - Jordanhill, in Glasgow next weekend.
Followed by a home game against Darlington Mowden Park on Saturday the 25th. August
The season proper then starts with the visit of Billingham on Saturday 1st September.
There was magnificent support for that last minute heart breaking game last season – so please come on down and give the lads a real beginning of the season boost with another big turnout – why not bring some mates or the family and enjoy a pre-match lunch
After the last minute disappointment of relegation last season I am delighted that our Head coach Mike Aspinal, now joined by Andy Boyd and Rob Rawlinson, and most of last year’s side have committed themselves to the club and our effort to regain National 2 status. We have no illusions however that it will be difficult with National 3 being just as competitive a league and with no easy games.
However, whilst that may be the club’s short term goal and although the 1st XV may be the ‘ shop window ‘ HRUFC is a true ‘ community ‘ club with the real work done by the many unsung volunteers both as Coaches of some 400 + Minis and Juniors every Sunday morning or as our match day organisers, without whom the club would grind to a standstill.
Their commitment cannot be underestimated but we are always looking for more of those who are prepared to put something back to ensure the continuation of HRUFC as we enter our 142 year.
As we dare to hope that a move to a new home is just around the corner I am honoured to lead a new committee who have already embraced the need to look hard at the existing club structures and the a more strategic long term development programme
The game of Rugby continues to go through big changes as clubs have to balance aspiration with financial prudence. The RFU are emphasising the need for improved coaching at all levels rather than just senior rugby and HRUFC are committed to the delivery of good coaching structures if we are to improve the pathway of young players through to the senior sides and attract new talent.
Also I am delighted to welcome into the HRUFC family a Harrogate Ladies XV. We already have girls taking part in the junior section but now there is the opportunity for the ladies to get involved - if you are interested contact Laura Symonds – firstname.lastname@example.org
