We are launching a free Fitness Skills & Fun project for 14-19 year olds in the area, in association with Young Harrow Foundation

The fact that 1 in 5 young people in the area don’t take part in physical exercise outside school or college was discovered in a recent survey by Young Harrow Foundation. It also showed that physical activity levels dropped off as children got older so Harrow Rugby Club, in association with Young Harrow Foundation, is launching the Fitness Skills & Fun programme aimed at giving young people the chance to get active without gym sessions or a bootcamp.

The Fitness Skills & Fun programme is for 14 to 19 year olds in the Bushey/Stanmore/Harrow area and takes place after school on Tuesday afternoons at the club. It’s free and is a weekly 90 minute session of multi-sports based fitness and skills development based on games. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in.

The programme is designed to deliver fitness improvements and skills development across a range of sports which will help everything from hand-eye co-ordination to agility and strength. It's for beginners and non-sporty types as much as for anyone wanting to get fit by playing games outdoors and not having to go to a gym. Instructors are all qualified and safe-guarding vetted and will conduct sessions to allow participants to go at their own pace. It's being run by our own Tom Beech, 1st XV player and his fitness company Rockhopper.

People can come along for a 6 week programme and then stay for more. We also hope some will be interested in trying rugby at Harrow as well, having experienced the club.

Neil MacDonald explains “It’s important that sports clubs like ours offer our experience of working with young people and our facilities for wider use by the community. This is an excellent way to start addressing this problem and help young people in the area. Young Harrow Foundation have given us funds and loads of suport to get this going and make a difference"

Everyone at Harrow RFC can support this community project by thge club by getting the word out and getting our flyer into schools, youth groups, scouts groups and anywhere else 14 to 19 year olds might be!
