15 Harrow RFC coaches attended an RFU Activate programme held at the club on Sunday, one of the first in Middlesex

When players were highly compliant with the programme (3 times a week) there was a 72% reduction in overall match injuries and 59% reduction in concussion in a school boy study

The RFU Activate programme is a researched and proven method to reduce injuries in rugby. It's just being introduced and we are one of the first clubs to hold a coach training programme as part of our commitment to adopting it at the club.

It has had recognition in national media with the Guardian reporting:
"Researchers followed the progress of 81 men’s community rugby club teams and nearly 2,000 players over the course of a season, during which players performed the programme. Incidence of concussion was reduced by up to 60%, with lower-limb injuries down by as much as 40%. The closer the programme was observed by players, the greater the effect. The best results occurred when teams practised the warm-up at least twice a week."

The programme is a progressive schedule of pre-match exercises done as part of the warm-up and is aimed at U15 players and upwards. You can find out more about this important and exciting initiative on the RFU website here

If we can deliver this programme as far as we can throughout the club it will make rugby safer and more enjoyable for all of our players at Harrow.
