Merit Table finals great success as Lions take the honours and cup

Herts Middx Merit Table 5 Cup Final

Harrow Lions 33-26 OMTs

So a marvelous season for the senior section of the Club finished with the Lions, who remain undefeated for the whole of the 2013/14 season picking up their second trophy of the year will a hard fought but well merited victory over OMTs 2nds in a cracking final of the Herts and Middx MT Cup 5 at Grove Field on Saturday by 33-26.

For the match report by one of the Lions players Howie Gosling please see below.

An outstanding performance in a high quality game by the Lions saw the Lions pick up the trophy to go along with the MT 5 League and they were the only team in the 8 merit tables to go the whole season undefeated. Their performances this season are likely to see them promoted at least two leagues for next season.

Congratulations for an outstanding season by Ed Brewer and his team.

Unfortunately Ed returns North next season and we wish you all the best in your future life, thank you for all that you have done for our Club and that we will miss you.

Finally Saturday was a fantastic occasion, enjoyed by 304 players from 16 clubs and 24 match officials and some people worked really hard to make it the best experience we could for all our guests. But to be honest we only just about got there by the skin of our teeth. I appreciate that the merit table finals was only a week after the hosting the National Senior Vase and the club had expended a lot of energy in getting that right but we had a responsibility to get Saturday right as well. To those who gave up their time on Saturday for the Club I am really appreciative but is it really fair that those same people who were up at Grove Field at 9.30am in the morning to help set up were still there at 9.30pm clearing up. A few more people would have meant less work for everybody else.
