Harrow continue unbeaten run & move 7 points clear!

Harrow travelled to Old Abbotstonians in what was a top of the table clash with 4 regular starters missing.

From the kick off it was evident that Harrow were not at the races with handling errors & missed tackles creeping in to what is normally a well drilled unit.

In the first 15 minutes Harrow had a number of opportunities to get on the scoreboard but the handling let them down & it was from a turnover ball inside the OA’s half which allowed them to counter attack & score after some woeful tackling.

Harrow briefly regrouped & after some scrappy play Elliot put a pin point kick cross field which was collected by Whitehead who ran through unchallenged to score.

It seemed like Harrow were going to move forward & get out of first gear but the errors kept mounting up. Harrow was only able to add to the score just before half time when from a scrum 5 metres out Conroy was able to score under the posts. Conroy added the extra 2.

At halftime Harrow grouped together & it seemed they would come out a better team but the 2nd half started the same as the 1st with error after error. These errors allowed OA’s possession & after mounting a string of attacks they were able to rumble over the line.

From the kick off Harrow went on the attack briefly & were awarded a penalty but the penalty changed in favour of OA’s in what can only be described as a very confusing decision to send Argent to the sin bin for 10 minutes. With Harrow down to 14 men they dug deep & from a turnover inside there own half they went on the attack & were awarded a penalty inside the OA’s 22. With the scores tight they decided to go for posts with Conroy narrowly converting.

Argent then returned after his 10 minutes in the bin & Harrow mounted some pressure on the OA’s defence & was again rewarded with another penalty which Conroy converted via the upright.

It looked as though Harrow were starting to play a little bit of rugby but again it didn’t last long when some below standard tackling allowed OA’s to score easily. This score made the scores 18-15 in favour of Harrow & OA’s were building in confidence.

The game then turned a little scrappy from both sides but Harrow managed to mount an attack & was again awarded a penalty after an infringement at the ruck. Conroy stepped up to add the 3 points.

Harrow then held off to maintain there unbeaten run this season & also maintain there unbeaten run in the league which dates back to September 2009.

All in all this was a very disappointing performance from the Harrow outfit which never got going. There are very few positives to take out of this game other than the 4points but one thing is for certain, Harrow will be looking to bounce back from this performance & put on a good display next week at home against Chess Valley!

Get down to Wood Lane next weekend to support the 1st XV who will be looking to turn this performance around & play the rugby we & the supporters have become accustomed to!
