Harrow lost only their second competitive match of the season going down 36-8. Having fallen to NW London 3 promoted West London in the semi-final of the Floodlit cup, they went a step further in the Middlesex Vase, losing in the final to Herts and Middlesex Div 2 champions H.A.C.
Harrow were never really able to stem the flow of attacking rugby produced by a H.A.C team who fully deserved the win.
H.A.C played with a style and flair which Harrow were unaccustomed to, and ultimately Harrow's fitness levels and perhaps their strength in depth, were slightly exposed. An early penalty kick by H.A.C and another by Simon Bram of Harrow were the only scores in a tightly contested 1st half an hour. Then a great spell of rugby saw H.A.C score 3 converted tries to lead 24-3 at half time.
Harrow gave their all and on the hour mark they managed to score with Sean Pratt getting the touchdown. Try as they did, Harrow could not breakthrough the tremendous H.A.C defences, and eventually H.A.C again scored 2 more late tries in the half including a full length of the field intercept by the H.A.C fullback. H.A.C had played with confidence and at times wild abandon to throw the ball about at every opportunity. At times, they were a little fortunate but on the whole they played some excellent rugby. Harrow's man of the match went to Ciaran Collins, who gave his all throughout in his last game before heading home to Ireland, will be sorely missed. Other players who will be gone but not forgotten are Callum Smith who has selfishly decided to go to University and Chris Walsh who is heading back 'oop' North. Good Luck to all 3 of you and come back soon!
