Onwards and upwards

For those that arrived early this week you got the pleasure of watching the coaches playing a game of rugby. It was a sight to behold......but it seemed to be the bacon roll at the end of it that perked them up the most.

The theme for this weeks training was creating space, with a number of different drills to focus the mind and the body. The first involved effective tackling with 2 teams either on the tackle bags or in a circle. The boys got a bit of a shock when they realised the importance of listening skills and found themselves doing 2 laps of the pitch - an excellent reminder as to why focus always needs to be maintained. With this reminder they moved into passing up the line to practice moving forwards into the space.

As they moved into match play the reds were clearly the strongest as they created space and aggressively moved forwards. However, the blues made some good tackles and when they found and moved into space were able to score some excellent tries with Kalel and Mahir really helping to drive forwards. A number of the parents commented on just how strong all the boys looked and how much they had matured into the game - even though they are early on in the season.

At the team talk the coaches reminded the boys the importance of creating and finding space but also to ensure they brought intensity and aggressive play to the entire game. Player of the week was Kalel - with both excellent team play and driving forwards. Sachin was Rucker of the week with the most turn overs and great leadership demonstrated and Alan was tackler of the week showing that he is one to watch this season. Next week is training again at home, prior to the Barnet Festival the following week. Dont forget to bring cakes and your kitchen duty head and hands.
