Arrows Progress In KO Cup.
Bourne Town 0 Harrowby United 3.
Harrowby made the short trip to local rivals Bourne Town on a rainy Tuesday evening to contest the Preliminary round of the League Knockout Cup. The Arrows came away from Abbey Lawns with a fine three goals to nil victory, earning an away tie with Irchester United in Round One.
Harrowby started brightly forcing the early pace and in the first minute a Joe Briers cross was met by a Luke Peberdy header that was comfortably saved by Alex Brown in the ‘Wakes’ goal. After ten minutes a Bourne counter attack caught Harrowby napping allowing a shot from just outside the box by Eddie Macdonald which whistled over the cross bar. The Arrows continued to have the better possession and created more chances, Felix Hogg had a low shot saved by Brown and Ash Miles had a back header from a free kick drift just wide of the post before they finally made the breakthrough in the thirty sixth minute. Joe Wroughton whipped in a cross from the right towards Briers who acrobatically met the ball with his right foot to power a shot past a helpless Brown.
Harrowby were still in the ascendancy during the second half although after sixty six minutes a cross into the Harrowby penalty area was misjudged by Jezz Goldson-Williams who failed to connect with a free header. On seventy minutes Wroughton, who troubled the Bourne defence all evening, advanced on goal before firing a low drive that fizzed past Brown’s left hand post.
The all important second goal for Harrowby came two minutes later when a ball out to the left was held up by Arrows substitute Richemone Sylla, he laid the ball off to Wroughton whose perfectly flighted cross found Briers at the far post who headed past Brown for his second goal of the night. On seventy eight minutes a superb solo effort from Sylla saw him ghost past two defenders before curling a fine left foot shot which hit the inside of the post and bounced clear.
Harrowby put the result beyond doubt a minute later when Wroughton produced his third assist of the game with an inch perfect through ball that split the Bourne defence to find Sam Grouse who smashed the ball past Brown from around ten yards out. Bourne kept going and were almost rewarded with a consolation goal as Macdonald again tried his luck from distance but saw the effort deflected narrowly wide.
