2017/18 CLUB AWARDS

B.B.O.B. R.F.C. Annual Awards Presentation Evening 2017-18

In previous years the Awards Evening was held after the traditional Overs v Unders match which took place after the conclusion of the season's fixtures. Last year, for a variety of reasons, the turn out for the game was poor and the evening event suffered similarly. The decision was made, this year, to hold the event after the final social league game and this proved to be justified with a great turnout of players, supporters and friends.
Arrangements for the evening were however not straight forward with much in depth discussion at Committee level. Unusually the 'Pies'did not get a look in as a good deal of 'Bickering' took place regarding who would be in charge. So just to keep their faces straight it was agreed that Chairman Jonny Starrs and Secretary Chris Corkin would form the headline act! And a jolly fine job was done!
Jonny thanked all those whose work on behalf of the club had greatly contributed to a successful season. The playing squad had developed through the season with good attendance at training and match days. The club has been fortunate to attract a number of players with well developed talent and the younger element have improved their skills with the help of coaches Andrew Arnell and Anthony Egglestone.
Oh! The Pies! Jonny expressed the club's gratitude to Tim, Jane, Nancy and staff for their continued hospitality, greatly valued by us and renowned throughout the county.
Chris was eventually allowed his say and proceeded to introduce the season's awards.

'Pot House' Achievement Award
This is awarded by the Committee to an individual who has made significant contributions to club activities during the year. Paul Craggs gained this award for his commitment as a player and his valued assistance with transport to away games. It also reflects his twenty year continuous service to the club. Came close to leading try scorer with twenty touchdowns.

Player of The Year: Voted for by players and members this deservedly went to Ryan Scotchford, or 'Essex' which apparently relates to his origins before venturing north to study at Teesside University. We have yet to learn of his intellectual capacities but his presence on the field has impressed fellow players and watchers alike. At home in the second or back row, his pace and skill at the breakdown has been a determining factor both in attack and defence. Those present at Whitby will recall his work in defence, followed immediately by a breakaway from half-way and through a sea of mud for a try in the corner. Has seven tries to his credit. Looking forward to seeing more of his rugby attributes next season.

Leading Try Scorer. Andrew Arnell 23 Tries. Always an opportunist when chances occur, tries have come from quickly taken penalties, forward drives or supporting sprints on either wings.

Clubman of The Year. The Norman Allen Trophy. Norman Allen was a BB company member and played for B.B.O.B. from 1963. During the season 1974-75 he turned out regularly for the second team but sadly, just a few months later in October, passed away after a short illness. His widow, Christine, kindly donated the trophy which is awarded to individuals who have made significant and valued contributions to the club.

By a majority vote the award went to Club Captain Andrew Arnell, a recognition of not only his outstanding service this year but his commitment to 'Brigade' after joining the Club from Hartlepool Rovers in 2012. His playing record reflects the influence he has on the field. To date he has made 166 appearances, missing only 15 in six seasons and scoring 62 tries. His presence during the 'highs' and 'low' during this time can not be underestimated. His work on and of the field as Captain and Coach has been invaluable in maintaining a positive spirit within the squad and the development of younger players. He might not play as long as dad Eric did, but his level of commitment will remain equally as strong. B.B.O.B is indebted to Andrew for all his work and the Clubman of The Year Award is a reflection of our gratitude to him. 'Duxtus Exemplo'

B. Bob's Poser Awards
B. Bobs Posers stemmed from the antics of Prof. Rob Inson whose inane banter, usually over Carling, would often test the intellect and patience of the Cos bar staff! Thus was formed the BBOB society for the advancement of culture and knowledge amongst our members, chaired by the said proffessor, whose travels around the world have gained him some unusual and bizarre experiences.
The quiz would feature posers relating to the match opposition or location and require some research.
The project was eagerly taken up by a limited number whose intellectual capacties varied. Paul Craggs and Peter Howe became regular competitors and indeed a keen rivalry developed. Peter, with his fancy University Degree proved a worthy champion and embraced this spirit of enquiry with passion. Peter therefore becomes the first 'Brain of Brigade' and will no doubt look to defend this prestigious title next season. Paul brushed off this achievement and consoled himself with the factthat he scored more tries than Peter, which was far more significance than this trivia! But the Rugby Sticker Book was accepted with the gratitude expected of a Boys' Brigade Captain. To show that the society is all inclusive, the efforts of Adam Robson earned him an easy to read paperback on what happens during a rugby match! Of the remaining entrants, Mark Crawford managed twelve points, but lost interest since the time taken with research interfered with his usual 'on line' activities! Chairman Jonny had a dabble during tea break at the bank, but with little enthusiasm and Dr. Egglestone, whose spelling fell short of satisfactory, joined Adam at the foot of the league table with just two points.
B. Bob wishes to thank Chubbs and Saffron for their patience in . with the idiosyncratic behaviour of members of the society who act in the best interest of cultural enhancement.

Less formal accolades and humilations later took place with the usual 'Lets see who can pour the most drink down his shirt competition' Aaron Donnision received worthy praise for his continuing development on the field but viewed the two pint jug with a little apprehension. No need to worry, he could take his time as the obvious favourite Phil Gorman was called to the stage. His achievement award of last season was, for some reason, replaced with a well deserved D.O.S. with perhaps numerous reasons for this. Brad Harrington came forward perhaps for free drink or in celebration of his tries this year. Sadly this season's celebrated player, 'Essex' had to face ridicule on account of being identified as the provider of an unusual 'cry off'. In order to retain his loyalty and prevent embarrassment the matter will not be reiterated here. It is reported that he and his girlfriend were spotted leaving a local pet shop carrying a box of some kind. Confirmation will have to come from Essex himself!
After all the banter the jugs were raised and, as anticipated Gormo, was out of sight before Aaron had wet his lips. Brad did a little better and Essex was a slow starter. All in all more drink ended up on the floor which ex Chairman Dave Whitecross was detailed to clean up! Appropriate!

Many thanks to all the Cos Staff.
The fun continued and a great night was had by all. A group of uninvited ladies of mature years gathered in the corner by the door. Eric, unusually, decided they required entertaining and attempted to conduct an impromptu concert. All went well until some misfit with a ukulele took over and diverted the ladies attention from the said choirmaster.

Do you know what Eric can do with a ukulele?

Fletch Does!

Cheers Well done Everyone
