Brigade won the corresponding home fixture 53-10 back in September, scoring nine tries, but on Saturday suffered a direct reversal. Once again away form was hampered by an understrength squad with just one substitute to call on,whilst the home side were able to use the maximum replacements. Ironically Brigade scored the first and last tries of the game, both individual efforts by skipper Anthony Egglestone who had been forced to retire from the field for a period before being needed to replace the injured Shaune Howe.
South Tyne began with purpose, moving the ball in a series of flowing threee-quarter moves and testing Brigade's defence. Good work by Coverdale and the Howe brothers kept the home side out before Brigade's forwards drove play into the College 22. A quick tap penalty by Craig found Egglestone in support and his strong run took him through the defence to touch down in the corner for Shaune Howe to convert. The support play and awareness of the home back row then became a dominant feature of play and with Brigade on the receiving end of successive penalty decisions, South Tyne moved into a big half time lead with four tries.

The pattern of play largely continued throughout the second half but Brigade never gave up the cause and the efforts of forwards Thornton,Walker,Beckwith and Frank ensured the home side did not have things completely their own way. With a number of players carrying injury, the best efforts of Brigade could not prevent four further tries and a convincing home win. The final few minutes saw Brigade attack the home line where Egglestone was on hand to squeeze over in the corner.
