STC RFC MATCH REPORT

South Tyneside College travelled to Hartlepool knowing that a BP win was very much high on the to do list from Head Coach Tom Brooks.

BBOB Take Advantage of Ill Disiplined College
BBOB, a side who had beaten STC three times during their promotion and cup winning season (2012-13) were winless going into the game and will have felt that a home win was very much a realistic target.

The game started brightly for the away side with BBOB pinned in their own half for the opening 10 minutes. Some neat and tight play by the big STC pack forced BBOB backwards and the home side were struggling to deal with the powerful College forwards. This resulted in a successful 8 to 9 move which saw Liam Tares dart over in the far corner after James Camm made an excellent dummy run. The early score seemed to silence the large home support.

Ill discipline from the Dial A Cab and Frontiers Sports Bar sponsored STC saw firstly Dan McKay shown a yellow before Mark Higgins also spent 10 minutes in the sin bin.

James Camm added another try after Hartlepool had taken the lead with a converted try. Another yellow, this time for Daniel Whitelaw, reduced the South Shields outfit to 13. BBOB used this to their advantage adding more points to the board.

The second half saw STC head down the slope and also have the wind advantage. Mark Hall replaced Anthony Caine and even managed to bag a try of his own showing neat footwork to beat a number of tiring BBOB defenders. Micky Jones once again added the extras.

Liam Tares scored his second of the afternoon and in doing so, secured the four try bonus point for the College which also brought them within 7 points of Hartlepool. Momentum was with the away side who looked in control.

However, it was BBOB who cleared their lines and made their way up the pitch keeping STC on the back foot. Some clumsy defending from the College resulted in BBOB picking up a loose ball and scoring their 6th try of the afternoon and in affect securing the points.

Ray Johnson was shown a late yellow, STC’s 5th of the afternoon.
