Lax Looking For A Win

Chris Lax is refusing to get caught amongst the hype amid last week's win, though he's aware that a win over Wolviston will show his side's character

The Pool boss was clearly delighted with the 2-0 victory over Silksworth last Saturday, and has urged his side - with the recent addition of several players - to record a winning run to boost themselves up the table.

But before he glances across to the season finale, he looked at the immediate future: "We can't get carried away with having one win.

"We have to go into the game with a mental attitude of being positive. Last weekend there were plus points but also negative ones - though we don't dwell on them. The negatives were mainly fitness levels, mind," he told us ahead of tomorrow's third meeting of the season between the two side's.

"It (the win) is something to build on and the new signings settled in well but this weekend we should see more from them and more talking - although they did talk last week.

"Last week it proved the capabilities they have got."

The absence of Danny Corbett, who is playing for Seaham tomorrow, frustrates Lax despite understanding the reasons why. So, when pressed on the situation of who will be paired with James Brodie-Myers up front, Lax responded: "I'm holding that close to my chest.

"Shaun Atkinson is without a game in a while. He's a forward but he has came down with an illness. There is options, however.

"I wish Danny was here week in, week out. But certain things don't allow it. He's a nuisance, upsets defenders and he is a strong character as well as a player."

Lax will be standing on the sidelines at his former club where he was assistant manager, with him targeting Wolviston's two defenders as their main threat.

"It will be a hard game. They've beaten us once and we've beaten them once already," he reflected, "They outmuscled us when they beat us.

"But we will be focusing on our game and we won't even give a thought to how they set up.

"Shaun Gregory and Adam Iveson (both defenders) are strong lads so we'll have to work around that, though."

He went on, "They know (Liam Robson's and Brodie-Myers') strengths as much as anybody and they will try to stop them playing. That will take the onus of the others and might free them up.

"We look forward, we don't want to go back over.

"As I said last week, if we can put a run together, steadily and quietly, we can climb up the table. If we get a win it will show our character."
