Hartlepool battled well but Westoe were a strong defending side and would not be broken down easily.

South Shields Westoe took the fight to Hartlepool and scored their winning try right on the final whistle.

Their number 14 slipped past the Hartlepool right on the right corner to win the game for the home side.

Despite pulling back a try in the 58th minute, Hartlepool struggled to keep Westoe from scoring past them and, while their attacks were well organised, the home side had a well structured defence that prevented them for counter attacking.

Hartlepool opened the scoring early on in the game when their number 10 earned them three points with a well kicked penalty.

But it was not long before Westoe began to pile the pressure on Hartlepool and nearly had a try out of it if it were not for Hartlepool's organised defence.

However, four minutes later Hartlepool's number 5 saw a yellow card for not rolling away in the breakdown.

And from the resulting penalty Westoe equalised.

Three minutes later, Westoe bagged the first try through their number 4 following a scrum on the left wing.

Just two minutes away from half time, Westoe increased their lead when the referee gave penalty advantage in Hartlepool's half.

But a minute before the half time whistle, Westoe were reduced to 14 men when their number 12 was shown a yellow card for a high tackle.

In the second half, Westoe bagged another try but not without a valiant effort by Hartlepool to keep the opposition off their line.

And four minutes later, Westoe’s number three broke through the Hartlepool back line to score.

In the 61st minute, number 15 increased the gap for Westoe using an overlap on the right wing.

Despite the score line, it was a strong effort for the travelling side who were unlucky not to have scored more tries.

Their attacks were sharp and dangerous but Westoe's defence was well structured and organised.

However, this is Hartlepool's first defeat in their last five games so there is no reason to believe that they will not find a way to come back from this loss.
