County Plate Champions
Rovers U17's were crowned plate champions again and captured their second trophy of the season
Rovers U 17's ended their season with a cup final win against Darlington in the county Plate.
The lads put the disappointment of last weeks defeat to Shrewsbury with a 15-7 victory over a good Darlington side.
Rovers played into the wind in the first half and dominated from the whistle as the pack dominated in the scrums. Taz Pelser took advantage of being on the front foot at the base of the scrum with some good breaks and one break had Chrissy Hopkinson held up on the tryline. Rovers pounded the line and were rewarded when Pelser barged his way over to lead 5-0. Darlo hit back with a try under the posts as we dropped off a few tackles to take the lead 7-5.
Rovers were soon back in the game when Monty burst through to retake the lead 10-7. It was a great 1st half performance playing into the strong wind as Darlo failed to take advantage of the conditions.
The second half was played in the Darlo half as Rovers pushed them back deeper into their 22. Josh missed 2 penalty kicks as the nerves looked to be setting in as the clock ticked away. Milky crossed the whitewash but it was ruled no try due to a Rovers knock on. Eventually after some drives for the line the ball was worked blind for matty lidster to score the winning try.
