CASH BOOST FOR LOCAL CLUB’S ARTIFICIAL CRICKET STRIP PROJECT

A project to improve Hartshorne Cricket Club’s on-field facilities has been completed thanks to supporting grants awarded by the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and The Lord’s Taverners.

The project to install an artificial strip for the junior cricketers at the Club is part of Hartshorne Cricket Club’s (HCC) wider vision which will hopefully allow more youngsters to come and enjoy the beautiful game.

There is little in the way of outdoor cricketing facilities in the immediate Swadlincote area since the demise of Swadlincote CC and Woodville CC so the new all-weather strip will allow more cricket to take place at the Club’s Rodney Meadows ground. For the recently Clubmark accredited club this is another positive step as they try to increase participation in cricket at all ages and levels.

Chairman of HCC Mr Keith Winfindale “We at the Club are extremely grateful for the support of both the Coalfields Regeneration Trust and The Lord’s Taverners, without which we could not have afforded to install the new strip which would have severely restricted the growth of the junior section of our Club. This is the first step of a larger project which aims to get more children in the Swadlincote area playing cricket.”

Club Development Manager Mr Steven Tomlin said “This is fantastic for the Club as not only can we carry out more matches and practice sessions on the square with the juniors but we can also get the Social / Community XI side playing more matches down here without damaging the main square. One of our aims is to get local residents and businesses to put sides together and come down for some evening friendly matches over the summer months”.
