YM II 17 - 16 H&D II
This past Saturday, our 2nd XV travelled to Ipswich YM.
The game was hotly contested from the start, with a number of incisive runs from both teams. However, it was Harwich to draw first blood. Harwich were on the attack and gained a penalty kick. Craig Wilson stepped up and converted the kick from 40 meters out, making the score 0-3.
Ipswich then started to try to play a bit more rugby and made a number of breaks. Eventually This led to the Harwich defence, under significant pressure conceding a try out wide. Ipswich were unfortunate to not score the conversion. With the score now 3-5, Harwich began to take the game to Ipswich and eventually, scored the Harwich's second penalty of the day. This was again converted. Unfortunately, after 10 minutes Ipswich went on to score their second try, which went unconverted. Making the score 6-10. Harwich then with sustained pressure took control of the game and the scoreboard with a converted try.
After half time, Harwich continued to dominate possession and territory without scoring the try that would have finished off a shaky and tired Ipswich team. Unfortunalty, with the final touch of the game Ipswich crossed the line to score the final try. Harwich must ensure that they walk away from this game with their heads high.
The scrum was strong throughout and the team were very comfortable in possession. Much of this was down to Mark Bow who had a strong game at scrum half.
All this after the first team's game Vs Burnham was cancelled at the last minute as they were not able to travel.
