Brightlingsea U16's 35 vs 65 Harwich & Dovercourt U16’s
It was a bright and early start for the Harwich U16’s, who took 15 players over to Brightlingsea for a training match. This game was to prepare the team for up and coming fixtures.
Despite the cold weather the spirits were high as usual. Brightling were short of numbers so a number of H&D players played for Brightlinsea to make the game and fair contest. Despite their lack of players, Brightlingsea played some great rugby and took the visitors by surprise. H&D did keep their full backline together to prepare them for future fixtures.
It was an even start to the game, but after a flowing attack and an amazing offload from Richard Hill who left Jacob Parker and Jack Coburn a 2-on-1 to score in the corner, which they executed with ease and debutant Jack Coburn scored in the corner. This set the tone of the half and after another even five minutes H&D set up a regimented attack, Jacob Parker going through a gap and sprinted 50m to the try line to score. The rest of the half was uneventful until a steady attack from Brightlingsea scored through their power house , leaving the scores on the doors at half time, 7-14 to Harwich.
Harwich came out in the second half full of confidence and started with several strong attacks leading to try’s from Jacob Parker, Jack Coburn and Joe Taylor. Brightlingsea also scored tries mostly from forwards going round the corner, this put H&D on the back foot, but the lead H&D had built was too big a mountain to climb. H&D’s lead was being shortened and the pressure was building until another great run from Joe Taylor added another 7 points to the score board, making a comfortable lead of 22 points.
Another two tries from Brightlingsea closed the gap and put the pressure back on until another of our highly talented backs scored yet again an amazing try, this time from Jacob Parker, with a disciplined attack followed by a breakaway 30m dash for the line. This left the final score at 35-65 to Harwich.
H&D U16’s will now look forward to their next fixture at the end of the month against Haverhill.
