Central Midlands League Review for December 20th
There weren’t too many surprises in the Black Dragon Badges North division with the bottom six sides failing to get a point between them. Harworth Colliery put on an excellent performance at Newark Town, beating the third placed home side 4-1 despite conceding an own goal in the first minute. Ryan Paczkowski equalised before the interval, but the game belonged to substitute Kenzie Tomlinson who completed a second half hat trick, to take Harworth’s current run to one defeat in twelve matches. Thoresby Colliery lost ground to leaders Clay Cross Town, being held to a 1-1 draw at Appleby Frodingham. Jonathan Nicholls was the home side’s scorer with a Lee Tryner penalty securing a point for Thoresby. Clay Cross were 5-1 winners over Sherwood Colliery at the “I Want Petfoods” stadium. Aiden and Ryan Ordidge got one each in the first half, as did Ant Lynam, with Lynam and Callum Lytham both scoring in the last 15 minutes before Craig Payne grabbed a late consolation for Sherwood. Westella VIP played their first league game for a month, showing no signs of ring rust as they ran out four goal winners at Dinnington Town. Chris Short and Andy Coverdale gave Westella a half time lead, with Will Rhodes and Rob Dodson both scoring in the second half. Easington United celebrated Christmas early with a 6-0 defeat of Thorne Colliery. Mark Hutchinson set things going with a first minute goal and completed his hat trick inside the first 20 minutes, Danny Barron also scoring before half time. Hutchinson added his fourth and Jamie Houlton rounded things off to give Easington their best win of the season. Ollerton Town were another team among the goals, putting five past Bentley Colliery, who could only manage one in return. Will Horton and Chris Hewitt both scored twice, Carl Russo also on the scoresheet, Courtney Peynado getting a late goal for Bentley. Top scorers of the day were Glapwell, who added eight to Welbeck’s rapidly rising goals against column. Ashley Grayson scored four goals, including a first half hat trick, Lee Naughton Sam Rhodes, Adam Kimberley and Neil Grayson were also on target. Kinsley Boys won the all Yorkshire clash with Brodsworth Welfare by three goals to one. Kinsley’s goals came from Liam Haller, Josh Stacey and Jack Owen, Bradley Maddison the scorer of Brodsworth’s reply. Phoenix returned to action after a five week gap, but went down 3-2 at home to Askern. Jason Kearsley with two and Shaun Mundy edged it for Askern, Rob Gorman’s pair for Phoenix not being enough to earn them a share of the points.
The eagerly awaited clash between the top two in the Black Dragon Badges South division was called off as Clifton weren’t able to raise a side to travel to Mickleover Royals. Bulwell took the opportunity to go level on points with Clifton with a narrow 2-1 win over struggling Holbrook St Michaels. Charlie McCormack gave Holbrook the lead, which was quickly equalised by Ashley Chadwick, but the Bulls had to wait until three minutes from time before Chadwick’s second gave them the points. There was another late winner at Wharf Road, Pinxton getting an injury time decider to beat Linby Colliery 3-2. Pete Stubley and Joel Smith gave the home side the advantage, but Ruban Mitchell’s two saw the sides level before Tom Ellis clinched it as time ran out. Belper United and Southwell City are two more teams who haven’t seen much football recently. They met at Christchurch Meadow, Belper coming out on top 5-1. The home side were two up in 11 minutes through Jordan Ball and Sam Vickers, Scott Slater adding a third before Marlon Waites replied for Southwell. There were further goals for Ball and Adam Robley, the win raising Belper to fifth place in the table. Hucknall Rolls were 2-0 winners at Blidworth Welfare, both goals coming in the second half from Jack Smith and Harry Allen. Eastwood Community’s recent improvement saw them register their third successive draw, their match with Swanwick Pentrich Road finishing goalless.
The Reserve Supreme division saw just one match played, Teversal’s recent decline continuing with a five goal home defeat by Radford, whose scorers were Liam Thompson, William Kevin, Kyle Reed, Channon Small and Rajay Banton.
Thoresby Colliery extended their lead at the top of the Reserve Supreme division with a 7-2 win over Eastwood Community. Liam Starbuck hit a hat trick, James Scothern added a pair and there were also gooals for Nathan Copeland and Nathan Brown. Eastwood’s reply came from Chris Gascoyne and Wayne Bexton. Blidworth also ran in seven at Hucknall Town. Jordan Simpson weighed in with a hat trick, Craig Buchanan and Gaz Curtis both scoring twice, with the Hucknall goal coming from Dean Robinson. Harworth were 4-2 winners at Sherwood Colliery. Danny Siddall (2), Aaron Lowder and Simon Brewster were the scorers for Harworth, Simon Groves and Daniel Wheat for Sherwood.
Swanwick and Holbrook St Michaels were deadlocked at one all after 90 minutes in their Reserve League Cup tie, but Holbrook were swept away in extra time as Swanwick added six more to finish 7-1 winners. David Robinson was the day’s top scorer with five, Mark Brewster and Tot Pilgrim also on target.
Harrowby Saints won through to the quarter finals of the Lincs FA Junior Cup. Goals from Robbie Manners, Niall Davie, Jack Millward and Thomas Scott gave them a 4-3 win over AFC Louth. They now play Swineshead Institute in January.
