Central Midlands League Review for November 22nd

Thoresby Colliery are the new leaders of the Black Dragon Badges North division after a 5-1 win at Brodsworth Welfare. Two goals each for Jamie Tryner and Danny Wiltshire and one from Tom Cooke put the Nighthawks two points clear at the top of the table, Shane Carver the scorer of the Brodsworth goal. Clay Cross Town had to come from behind to avoid defeat at Newark Town. After a feisty 90 minutes the game ended in a 2-2 draw. Jordan Thomas opened the scoring for Newark just before the break and added a second on the hour before Ant Lynam took his season’s total to 29, Rich Matthews levelling matters in the latter stages. Westella VIP left it late to claim the points at Askern, Rob Flounders’ winner coming four minutes from time. Rob Petch and Alex Wood were also on target for the East Yorkshire side, Askern’s goals scored by Jordan McCabe and Michael Attard. Ollerton Town had their best result for a while, travelling to Harworth Colliery and ending the home side’s seven game unbeaten run with a 6-2 win. Chris Hewitt and Kye Pilmore led the way with two each, Carl Russo and Will Horton adding one apiece. Harworth’s consolation goals came from Lee Edmondson and Tommy Durrant. A goal in the 8th minute from Brad Middlekoop proved all that was necessary to give Sherwood Colliery the points in their home game with Dinnington Town. Appleby Frodingham had no less than four goals disallowed in the first half of their game at Welbeck Welfare. Despite this they still ran out 4-2 winners, goals from Dayle Hutson, Jon Nicholls, Matthew Oates and Ryan Hibbard securing the points. Josh Brentnall was the scorer of both Welbeck goals.
Only four games were played in the Black Dragon Badges South division, with Clifton All Whites inflicting more pain on basement side Eastwood Community, racking up ten goals without reply. Craig Anderson put them in front as early as the second minute, the All Whites going seven up by the break. Things calmed down a little in the second half, as Clifton finished things off with three more. Both Rob Gill and Ben Clark grabbed hat tricks, Danny Starbuck added two, with Danny Johnson and Anderson also scoring. Belper United had a straightforward 3-0 win at Holbrook St Michaels. Scott Slater and a Luke Crosby penalty saw them two up at the interval, Sam Vickers adding a third on the hour. Linby Colliery lost ground after they were beaten 3-1 at home by Mickleover RBL. Sam Bartram (2) and Ben Stockley were the Legion’s marksmen, Joe Butler pulling one back for Linby. Losing a player with just 15 minutes gone did little to help Pinxton’s cause as the went down 4-1 at Wharf Road to Bulwell. Liam Towle and two from Jake Fisher saw the Bulls well in control by half time, Kurtis Bamford’s late strike for the home side was wiped out in stoppage time as Fisher completed his hat trick.
Only one game in the Reserve Supreme division, but a significant one for Graham Street Prims as they ended a run of nine defeats at Teversal, with the final score 3-0 in their favour. James Gladwin (2) and Zach Harrison were the Prims’ scorers. There was also one tie in the Phoenix Trophies Reserve League Cup, Dunkirk putting Radford out with a 4-1 win. Alex Meehan accounted for two with Alex Eliker and Connor Gilby also scoring, Daniel Hogg the scorer of the Radford reply.
A good day all round for Thoresby Colliery was completed by a 4-2 win in the Reserve Premier division against Holbrook St Michaels. Liam Starbuck, Micky Taylor, Jamie Bennett and James Scothern all scored for Thoresby, with Levi Stanley and an own goal accounting for Holbrook’s two. Pinxton won 5-2 at Eastwood Community with Louis Roberts claiming a hat trick, Chris Heathcote and Ki Smith also on target. Eastwood’s reply came through Robbie Mawer and an own goal. Hucknall Town and Harworth Colliery remained goalless at Watnall Road.
There was one match in the League Cup sponsored by Abacus Lighting. This one went all the way with Swanwick Pentrich Road edging out Bilsthorpe 5-4 at Eakring Road. Swanwick came from behind no less than four times, Ashley Buxton’s decisive 118th minute header giving them the lead for the only time in the match. This was Buxton’s second of the match, the Swans’ others coming from Shane Whitmore (2) and Shane Buckerfield. Mark Carter scored twice for Bilsthorpe, with Richard Guest and Gavin King getting the others. Swanwick will now be at home to Eastwood or Westella VIP in the third round.
