Brens notes ahead of todays Home game V Askern FC

WELCOME TO SCROOBY ROAD

Hello and welcome to Scrooby Road Jones and Co Recreational ground for today’s game against Askern.

As I write the programme notes we are still currently top of the league after an excellent result last weekend against title contenders Appleby, the result was made extra special as we had to play 60 minutes with 10 men after Josh “the pusher” Davis was sent off for what seemed a very harsh dismissal and one that should have seen both down to 10 as the Appleby player did the same thing to Ross Taylor prior to Josh getting involved but was missed by all 3 officials, but credit to the lads they rolled their sleeves up and got on with the task in hand and secured an excellent 3 points.

One thing we do seem to have at the minute is togetherness and this is showing on and off the pitch and the changing room and training is a good place to be at the minute and long may this continue.

Yet again though I still won’t be able to field the same squad as last week with the unfortunate Brett Garret injured from last week but as per previous week we have players available to step up into the role so the squad is the strongest I have probably ever had and the league position shows this.

On the club front we are pleased to announce that we have won the respect reward for both 1st and 2nd team something we are very proud of and something we have been working on for years, gone are the games where we would have 2 or 3 bookings for decent and the players have really took are words on board and deserve this accolade
Receiving both awards would be enough for me but the league kindly have given us £100 per team and also Molten match balls and training balls so many thanks to the league and Molten for this kind gesture and the money will be ploughed straight into the Robert Needham memorial stand.

So on to today’s visitors whose last game was a defeat to ourselves due to last week’s game against Glapwell being cancelled, there was not much in the game a fortnight ago against Askern so we know we have to be at the top of our game to seal all 3 points today, so let’s hope we can get out the traps early as we did last week, keep 11 on the pitch and work our socks off to remain top of the tree.
.

Today’s game should be another cracker with both teams desperate to keep in the running for the title, so why not grab yourself a cuppa from Tom’s tea room and sit back enjoy the game!

May I take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to Askern officials and supporters and hope everyone enjoys the game and have a safe journey home.
