Around the Club
As ever it was an up and down weekend for the club with all three Saturday teams playing as well as both junior sides.
The 1st team were Away at Kinsley Boys and were looking to follow up last week’s victory over Askern, the odds of a second 1 nil victory must have been 1000-1 just a few weeks ago but that’s exactly what they did, it weren’t pretty but the lads stuck together and held onto Skipper Woodys 5th minute header from a Walker corner, the back line held firm and although under pressure for the majority of the game Wibb never really had that many saves to make and we could and should have doubled our lead late on after Kinsley had a player sent off for dissent, that’s back to back victories for the 1st time this season, it’s now time to build on this and really go on and have a #minirun.
The reserves were in County cup action returning to Ecclesfield Red rose after last week’s abandonment, they were put to the sword though losing 7-2, it were always going to be tough looking at how the opposition has started their league campaign in the county senior, Colliery Goals came from Phil Beighton and an Own Goal, this cup were never going to be one the lads could compete in given some of the opposition in it so time to concentrate on the league and some tough games ahead.
The Colts were at home V South Kirby and were hoping to build on their victory against Denaby last time out, but it weren’t to be, some late last minute omissions didn't help and they went down 4-1, Damo Daffin did give the lads hope making it 2-1 with a penalty but they then conceded a penno which made it 3-1 and never really recovered after that, as ever the squad changing week in week out doesn't help and no fault of Billy is working hard to get the team together just needs a bit more commitment from all involved including the younger lads.
It were a pleasure to watch the Under 13’s on Sunday and they beat Dunscroft who were top of the table before the game 7-0, that makes it 5 in 5 for Dave Guys lads and some great goals as well including a wonder goal from the halfway line from Ross Young, who also scored another, remainder of the goals coming from Alex Jessop 2 Arron Joyce, Jack dean and Joel Knight, all of the lads though played extremely well and were nice to get comments after the game on their sporting behaviour from the referee.
The Under 14’s also hit 7 against Edlington white stars who were second but now Grahams lads have replaced them, they were 6-1 up at half time and played all of the second half with 10 men after losing their captain Bailey Clark as they started with a bare 11, goals coming from Jay Smith 3 Joe Green 2 Jamie Ellis & Callum Morley, well done lads really push on now and push for that top spot.
