WELCOME TO SCROOBY ROAD

Hello and welcome to Scrooby Road Recreational ground for today’s league game of the season against Thoresby.

The visitors are currently flying high in the league with 6 wins and only 1 defeat scoring 28 goals on their way so today will be a real test for us but one we will relish.

There will be some familiar faces for the visitors today with Tom Cooke and ex Harworth striker Sam West now plying their trade with Thorseby and it’s no sour grapes from us I’m glad both are doing well and genuinely wish them all the best just hope they have a shocker today !

Am delighted to say one player that did leave us pre-season to go to Thoresby has now returned to the club, Tommy Durrant really impressed pre-season and was a blow when he left to go to one our rivals but he realised the potential that Harworth have and made the decision to come back in which we welcome him back with open arms, disappointingly Tommy is unavailable today due to the transfer not going through in time.
The last 3 games have been more than encouraging and has seen us unbeaten against sides that will be up there at the end of the season and if a bit of luck would have gone our way we could have easily turned two of the draws into wins but that’s football I’m afraid.
The reason for our recent success is no secret, we have started to gel as a unit and have been working hard in training on fitness and everyone’s work rate has increased 10 fold from earlier in the season and we intend to keep that philosophy going to the end of season.

At the time of writing this the 1st team have just beaten the 2nds/Colts team 4-0 in a friendly, the game was designed for us to look at lads who have not had many minutes this season and also to look at a couple of new signings and I can honestly say I was impressed with the 2nd/Colts and the 2 new signings that played tonight especially James Bytheway who has re-joined the club, James was a part of Harworths successful U19s side and although he was learning the game at that level and never really caught my eye 2 years ago he has come back a much better player and believe he will have a big part to play this season.

Unfortunately we won’t be able to field our strongest side today as skipper Martyn Gee who has been a rock so far this season is missing due to family commitments and Dave Cornthwaite who has also had a consistent start to the season is also missing through suspension but this will give other players their chance and I’m sure they will look to forward the challenge.

Just to finish I would like to wish my brother Jonny Wilson a speedy recovery from his hip replacement, Jonny is Mr Harworth Colliery and the time and effort he puts into the club is unparallel and will be sorely missed in the changing rooms and I’m sure everyone in the club wishes him well and promise him that there will be at least one football left when returns !!

I’m sure today’s game will be an entertaining affair so grab yourself a cuppa from Tom’s tea room and sit back enjoy the game!

May I take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to Thoresby's officials and supporters and hope everyone enjoys the game and have a safe journey home.
