Saffron Crocus Reserves v Haverhill Rovers A
Haverhill Rovers A side made the short trip over to Ickleton to face Saffron Crocus Reserves in a League game.
Rovers started well with the large pitch suiting the away side's passing game and with the Haverhill side moving the ball around well, it wasn't long before a well delivered through ball from Rovers midfielder Josh Ruthven beat the host's offside trap and straight into the path of Rovers frontman Jess Luff. He calmly despatched the ball home past the host’s keeper to give the visitors the early advantage. The half progressed with the home side slowly coming back into the game, but the Rovers held onto their slim lead going into the interval.
Second half found the home side starting strongly with a couple of counter attacks nearly catching the Rovers defence out, if not for two superb last ditch tackles from Rovers skipper Liam Bartlett to preserve the score line. At the other end of the pitch a perfectly taken free kick from Rovers’ Carl Bradford was met in the air by Jess Luff's well timed header that looped over the Saffron's keeper and into the back of the net to give the visitor's a two goal lead. Further misery for the home side followed when a well worked passing move found Rovers left midfielder Kieran Stratton at the edge of Saffron's penalty area, who hit a sweet curling in-swinging shot that found the top right hand corner of the opposition's goal for a three nil lead and finishing off a solid team performance from the Rovers with a well-deserved win.
