After Jonathan Milne
had grazed the side netting of the away side’s goal with a shot just outside the box on 22 minutes Newmarket led 11 minutes later, a corner from the left being whipped in at near head height just in front of the near post, Steve Holder getting to it first in front of everyone else to divert it in at the same upright.
Eleven minutes after the break Rory Jebb had what was Haverhill’s best chance, his first touch to a through ball down the left wing taking it in to his path but his shot only found goalkeeper Alex Archer’s legs.
Newmarket had two other close calls on the home goal, Haverhill ‘keeper Charlie Turner saving well after Steve Spriggs was given too much room in the home penalty area and Austen Diaper hit the cross bar with a shot on the turn near the end of the match.
