The Lions got their season off to a good start with an emphatic win over Totnes at the Memorial Park. Speedy winger Adam Cope crossed for the first of his five try haul on 6 minutes as Hayle racked up a 24 point lead before the interval. Rob Heath went over for the second try on 15 minutes, converted by fly half Ashley Hocking, who also converted Cope's third try. Hayle kept the momentum up in the second half as Cope claimed his fourth try on 50 minutes, converted by Hocking, and scrum half Tom Excell darted over for a try on 60 minutes, again converted by Hocking, to open up a 38 point lead. Cope notched his fith try two minutes later, converted by Hocking, and Totnes looked well and truly beaten. However, the Devon side fought back in the final stages as their forwards enjoyed a period of sustained pressure on the home line. Lock Kieran Watts barged over on 75 minutes and prop Tom Edmonds burrowed over two minutes later for a try, converted by fly half Scott Hingston.
