Hayling Utd Tambling's Tournaments
Tournament report.
After their first season in organised football the Hayling United Under 9 football team played their first two tournaments in June & July. Their first at Meon Milton saw them just fail to qualify for the semi finals on goal difference. The team of Adi Gacek, Josh Avenall, Sonny Harnett-Balkwill, Blake Woolmer, Elliot Hewson and Zak Reid played extremely well and simply ran out of steam at the end as they did not have any substitutes owing to last minute drop out's.
After this the boys went to the high standard Havant & Waterlooville tournament where they played brilliantly well to win their group and semi final. In the Final Hayling dominated from the kick off and after Zak Reid was thwarted on three occasions three times by the Portchester keeper Elliot Hewson opened the scoring for Hayling. The boys continued to push forward only to be caught by one Portchester break away where they equalised and with the tie at 1-1 Hayling had a late goal disallowed as Sonny Harnett-Balkwill launched a long throw into the area where a Portchester defender headed into their own net only for the referee to award Portchester a free kick for a push. With the score 1-1 the game went straight to penalties which Hayling lost 5-4.Kiegan Mengham, Elliot Cotton and Niall Carr joined the squad for this tournament.
In the forthcoming season the boys will compete in the South Hants Glass league 'B' Division, playing their home matches at Hayling College on Sunday mornings.
