Congratulations to Joe Marler and Billy Twelvetrees, both former Heath Colts, whose selection for the England Saxons squad was announced today.
Quins prop Joe (20) played for the Colts and had a run out for the 2s in a winning Sussex Bowl game at Worthing as a 17 year-old when his age meant he had to play at 8. He was impressive even then. Interestingly, Joe started at loose head for Quins against Wasps on Sunday and, as well as scoring the opening try, came up against another former Heath Colt, the Wasps tight head Ben Broster.
Billy (22) moved to Heath from Pulborough and very quickly made his mark including controlling the game from 10 in a decisive win at Blackheath. Photos from that game - also featuring recent Cambridge Blue and England Students number 8 Ben Maidment, appear below courtesy of Peter Dickson whose son, Huw - currently playing for Heath 2s - played in the same Sussex Cup-winning side.
They have a great opportunity to impress, with Joe in particular already tipped for prop stardom - see the full page in last Sunday's The Rugby Paper.
