Last weekend Heath senior squad set off to the West Country on their 2015 Tour...

Starting at the Rectory Ground in Plymouth against Devonport Services RFC Heath was playing a team with Royal Navy and Royal Marine representative players. Devonport Services, nicknamed The Sporting Blues, are a Level 7 club who play in the South West Division - Western Counties League. The Rectory Ground has also been the venue of famous games such as the All Blacks versus Combined Services.

On Saturday the team was piped onto the pitch by bagpipe playing Club Captain Kevin McDonald before kick off. It was a hard fought game played in a great spirit by both sides with Heath winning by 38-22. In honour of Plymouth’s maritime heritage the post-match attire was nautical themed fancy dress which was appreciated by the locals.

The tour continued on Sunday with a game against Dorchester RFC and after going three tries down against a young motivated host side it looked like two games in two days was a bridge too far. However veteran centre and club captain Kevin McDonald playing in his last competitive game for the Club sparked a revival with a break in the opposition half, releasing full back Sam Galbraith with a try scoring pass. Further tries came from No. 8 Sam Drage, fly-half Robbie Fotheringham, a second for Galbraith, before the try of the game came from Jamie Diggle who sprinted home from 40 metres after good approach work, and a clever switch from McDonald, to take the win and cap a memorable tour for the Club.

A great weekend was had by all – now it’s back to serious business as Heath take on Crowborough in the semi-final of the Bob Rogers Cup this Thursday 30 April, kick off is at Brighton RFC at 7.30pm. All support welcome for this end of season clash – come and see whether Heath can keep its winning streak going and top off a great season by reaching the Cup Final.
