Haywards Heath RFC's mini section capped a fine season with four age groups touring to one of the largest mini rugby festivals in the UK at Camber Sands over the bank holiday weekend . Teams from the Under 8's, 9's , 10's and 11s represented Heath against clubs from Kent , Surrey , Hampshire , Berkshire , Essex , Herts , Bucks and even Nottinghamshire over the two day competition run by national sports group Sports Tours .

The standard of rugby was very high throughout the weekend with a number of clubs sending county championship teams from their relevant age groups and the action was fast and furious . Heath were not overawed by the size or the ability of the competing clubs and played some outstanding rugby of their own across all age groups . In difficult windy conditions on the Saturday and wet weather on the Sunday each of the Heath teams were able to express the clubs open running rugby style and record some fine wins over well known opposition .

By the end of day two of the competition and after a lot of rugby it was clear that the Heath mini section had done Sussex proud with the Under 8s being crowned champions and the Under 11s having entered two teams not only winning the championship but also finishing runners up and the Under 9s and Under 10s going very close in their competitions. The Heath Under 10's were probably the unluckiest team of the tournament as they played some scintillating rugby and were unbeaten throughout the weekend scoring 50 tries in the process and conceding none. However a bizarre count back system meant that because an opposition team had forfeited its game , Heath were only credited with a 1-0 nil victory meaning that through no fault of their own they narrowly missed out on top spot despite clearly being the best team having to take the runners up trophy instead.

The quality of rugby on display from all of the Heath teams was simply breath taking and in a season when three of the club's mini sides have been crowned Sussex county champions the strength in depth for next season looks very encouraging as the minis section of Heath looks to continue its success and expand further in Rugby World Cup year.
