Having arrived at an unusally dry Glen Road, Headingley lost the toss and were invited to bat. Both Rodgers and Smyth were careful in the opening exchanges and the score trickled along at 1 -2 an over as the Barwick openers bowled tightly, if not causing any alarms. Ian was first to go thanks to a spectacular catch at fine leg to a rare poor ball on the pads. Rob was soon to follow, having creamed it off the inside edge into his pads only to see the umpire lift his finger for LBW. Dukey and BBD didn't show any signs of permanence, though BBD may wonder about the height of his LBW hitting him well above the knee roll. A recovery of sorts was start by Tony Williams and Fletch, before fletch was stumped. Fahad joined Tony and for a while a total of 120-150 looked possible. However with the total at 63, Tony was too early on a sweep and caught by the keeper. The next 2 dismissals followed a similar patterm with both Crutch and Colonel playing too early on a very slow deliveries bowled on a sluggish deck. Skip got "ball of the century" or otherwise known as a straight one and little Joe chipped out. 73 off 33 overs wasn't a great effort given the ability of the batsman. Bowling was tidy but nothing more and though the deck/outfield made run scoring difficult, we should've batted the overs.

Barwick seemed pretty certain they would win at tea but the 2s went for broke and opened with their most successful bowlers in this campaign. If BBD prised the door open by getting the breakthrough by bowling Todd for 0, Samit Saunders rolled through it. Perkins having survived one plumb lbw, couldn't get away with playing no shot. Bellis top edged a pull to Fahad. BBD took out Aussie superstar Murkins to the 3rd dubious LBW of the game. Oldfield lost his off peg to Saunders before Swift slogged to little Joe. 26-6 and Headingley were back in the game but with Saunders bowled out and BBD nearly. Trying to keep the pace off the ball Tony Williams looked like taking a wicket nearly every ball as Barwick, clearly rattled, were scraping for every run. Despite Dukey and Little Joe beating the bat nothing was now going Headingley's way. It took a last throw of the dice with Big Dave to get the wicket of Harper, caught at point and Leconby LBW. Barwick tail wagged thanks to some swipes and they just about creeped over the line.

Depsite a poor first half, the 2s showed great spirit 2nd half and with some more luck could've snatched it. The 1s will also be encouraged as they face Barwick this Saturday with a much stronger outfit.
