Lions edge encounter

Football is a game of passion. Memories are made each season and occasionally those memories are ones that hold hurt, this fixture will always be a game that holds memories of that kind for those who were involved in The FA Vase fixture, where Scott Rogers suffered a double leg break, in November 2014.

With Heanor still missing half a dozen players it was another double signing that boosted the squad, goalkeeper Jamie Hannis joins from Ilkeston FC and Jason Foster signs after a spell with Mickleover Sports FC.

Kieran Debrouwer has started this season in fine form, he should have done better with his fourth minute effort as he only managed to rattle the stand behind the goal from eighteen yards.
Demitrius Smikle beat Greg Marriott to the ball, showed a great turn of pace but let himself down with a strike that proved to be catching practise for Heanor’s 16 year old custodian.
Coleshill should have taken the lead on nine minutes, Luke Bartone jumped higher than central defender Nick Hall to flick a header toward goal. Hannis showed his ability again get his finger tips to the ball to divert for a corner.
Chris Hughes was the grateful recipient of a spot of loose handling from The Lion’s debutant goalkeeper. On seventeen minutes it was a Coleshill corner kick, headed down by Smikle, not held by Hannis and knocked through the goalkeeper’s legs and in to the net.
It took only four minutes for Nathan Benger to level the scores for Heanor. His passed finish into the bottom right corner, beating Luke Edwards to the ball in the build-up, came after a neat passing move involving Bettney, Marriott and Debrouwer before the target man showed his prowess in front of goal.
Jay Cooper showed his worth to the team, causing problems for the Coleshill defence throughout, his thirty fifth minute finish. Benger looped the ball forward for Cooper to control then rifle in to the bottom left corner, Coleshill goalkeeper Paul Hathaway unable to get near the strike.
On the strike of half time Luke Barlone should have equalised, his header inches wide of the target. His inaccuracy ensuring Heanor held a vital half time lead.

As the second half began with a Kieran Debrouwer header, a cross from Greg Marriott evading all defenders before the talismanic striker nodded the ball narrowly over the cross bar with Hathaway well beat.
Nick Hall, covering the missing Ryan Booker in central defence, kept Heanor’s lead in tact with a match winning tackle on fifty two minutes. Ricky Cutting looked ready to pull the trigger from six yards out when the right foot of Hall nicked the ball away for a corner kick.
Coleshill never gave up throughout, Naylor and Edridge both found themselves in the book for robust challenges on sixty one minutes and seventy minutes respectively.
Jason Foster made his first Heanor appearance in a little over two years when he replaced Benger on sixty seven minutes, the versatile player taking up a role in midfield.
Cory Bowler joined the action on seventy seven minutes, replacing Jay Cooper. It was the winger, who has been dual-signed with Holbrook Sports in order the get game time, who fired the third goal for Heanor. Greg Marriott drilled a free kick from the half way line in to the penalty area, Debrouwer helped flick the ball on for Bowler to volley in to the right side of the net. A strike placed so well that Hathaway didn’t bother to attempt a save.
Chris Gilson entered the fray on eighty five minutes, replacing Andre Johnson. It was Gilson who rounded off the win with a calm finish on ninety minutes, outpacing the back line to latch on to Bowlers punt forward, he took a touch before rolling the ball under Hathaway in to the net.
Just to ensure the referee definitely knew his name after scoring his first senior goal, Gilson ended up being shown a yellow card for a clumsy tackle on the half way line. His frustration showed after Leon Weller looked to have dragged the forward to the ground two minutes earlier.
