6 Goals at Eagle Valley

Heanor completed their pre-season campaign with a 6 goal thriller at the Eagle Valley, Arnold on Monday Evening. The game was watched by a crowd of around 40 spectators who would have gone home happy seeing some cracking football and superb finishing by both teams.

Heanor started brightly and within 6 minutes had the lead. Jordon Mogford jinxed is way past is marker in the box and slotted the ball in the right hand corner away from the keeper. Heanor looked in real control of the game and continued to play some good passing football and retained possession well. However a thunderbolt shot from more than 45 yards flew over keeper Nathan Stone and into the back of the net. The freak shot which had a gust of wind behind it looked a real pearl of a goal. Arnold then started to impose themselves on the game, and forced Heanor into lots of mistakes. Number 7 for Arnold began to dictate the game and they were unlucky on two occasions not to take the lead, hitting the crossbar and post, before the half time whistle came.

The second half started as the 1st had finished. Arnold continued to add pressure and within 5 minutes had taken the lead. 10 minutes later they added another with the impressive number 7 smashing the ball past Nathan Stone in the Heanor goal. 3-1. It looked at this point that Heanor had ran out of ideas and the game looked destined to end in defeat However, Matt Bower had different ideas. Having worked tirelessly for the majority of the game, he turned his man just inside the penalty area and unleashed a curling left foot drive that flew into the top corner, a real strikers goal which any keeper would have struggled to stop. 3-2. Heanor instantly gained confidence and just 3 minutes later it was all square. A cross from Matt Bower found Jordon Mogford, who adjusted himself well, to head the ball into the net, Mogford celebrated his 7th Goal in pre-season. At this point in looked like Heanor was the only team who was likely to win the game however time was running out and in the end it ended Arnold Town 3 Vs Heanor Town 3.
