Despite an Easter Monday when the rain never relented Heanor Town drew a massive crowd of 328 to their important top-of-the-table clash with Borrowash Victoria.

It was a game which saw the Lions have a 100% Easter and take their unbeaten league run to ten games. But more importantly, it took them to within a point of the League Championship.

Borrowash’s third successive defeat allowed Oadby Town to move into second place in the table following their 5-0 win at Blaby & Whetstone Athletic on goal difference, but with their record being 12 goals adrift of that of Heanor’s it does seem, that with just three games left for the challengers, a point would be enough to secure the title for the Lions.

But the Heanor management will want to finish the season in style and they will want to see the championship trophy presented at the Town Ground on Saturday when Blackwell Miners Welfare are the visitors (3pm), rather than at Ellistown next Tuesday evening.

The support for the team has been superb this season and it would be great for the players and management to have another big crowd to hopefully crown what has been a great season with a title winning performance on Saturday.

It has certainly been a tremendously exciting season for all concerned and there might be more than the one or two usual choices for Supporters Player of the Season.

Voting forms will be available at Saturday’s match, another good reason why the footballing fraternity of Heanor and District should turn out to support their heroes in the senior teams’ last home game of the season.
