Heanor Town’s newly-formed Supporters Club – The 12th Man – got off to a fine start with their first fund raiser last Friday evening.
12th Man Chairman, Paul Morley, organised and produced a very popular and well delivered Quiz Nite in the club’s Town Ground Social Club.
Thirteen teams were attracted to the Quiz which was attended by over 70 supporters, and there had to be a tie-break question to find the eventual winners after three teams tied with 26 of the 40 questions answered correctly.
After all expenses had been met around £80 was raised for the new organisation.
The Supporters Club are also involving themselves in sponsorship for the Lions for the new season. Match Sponsor, Kit sponsor and match ball sponsorship is being actively sought, and the Supporters Club are also active in boosting the number of season ticket sales.
With admission prices pegged at last season’s Step 6 costs despite the promotion to Step 5, Season tickets will cost £80 for adults (a saving of £25), and £50 for concessions which represents a saving of £13.
The next meeting of the Supporters Club will be held on Thursday 26th July at the Crown Inn, Heanor at 8pm. Everyone is welcome to attend the meetings as the 12th Man organisation say, “We are keen to use everyone’s skills and talents to help boost the awareness of Heanor Town FC in this town.”
The first team kicked off with their first pre-season friendly of the season last Saturday at the new Central Midlands League Club Clay Cross Town and won 2-1.
Managers Glenn Kirkwood and Craig Hopkins used 17 players for the game including three triallists. Scorers for the Lions were Carl Slater and Daniel Fields.
The Lions have added Holbrook Sports goalkeeper from last season Simon Lillie to their squad for the new season, along with a former Town Ground favourite Adam Nicholls.

Next Tuesday the Lions will play Sutton Town AFC away in another pre-season game with the kick off once again fixed for 7.30pm.
