Heanor Town’s new kit next season will be open to sponsorship in the form of a raffle.

Tickets are available at £25 each and individuals or businesses may purchase as many as they like.

The scheme is being run by Lions Joint Managers Glenn Kirkwood and Craig Hopkins, along with Supporters Club 12th Man Chairman Paul Morley, to whom all enquiries re participation should be addressed.

The draw will take place on 1st August and following this the winning individual or business will have their name on the back of the first team shirts next season.

There will be two prizes. The first drawn will be for sponsorship of the first team’s home kit, and the second prize for the sponsorship of the away kit.

For further information see the Club’s website at www.pitchero.com/clubs/heanortownfc.

Whilst Heanor have been in the Northern Counties East League previously, on that occasion the Pyramid of Football had not been devised. The Northern Counties East League was initially formed out of a merger of the Yorkshire League and the Midland League at a time when the Midland League could not find sufficient people to run the competition.

Now, the competition has come a long way, and the Premier Division is now a Step 5 League and described by many as the strongest Step 5 League in the country outside the Northern League.

For the Lions first season at Step 5 they will be sporting a change of kit. The first team will play in all white at home and in orange shirts and black shorts and socks in their away matches.

Meanwhile, earlier reports that the Lions home midweek games in August would be allowed to go ahead as scheduled seems to have hit premature snags and further negotiations may be needed before the three games scheduled for that month are allowed to go ahead as listed.

The Lions lost their friendly a week last Tuesday at Holbrook Sports by the only goal of the game, Nathan Benger missing a penalty for them. The proposed trip to Mickleover Sports last Friday evening was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch, but Heanor were hoping for better things from their remaining two friendlies.

They were due to take on Sutton Town last Tuesday and will end their pre season games at Quorn next Tuesday (7.30pm).

On the playing side Nathan Benger, Daniel Fields, Matt Foster, Brett Peel, Jake Vernon, Gary Webster, Carl Slater, Stef Frost and Lee Stevenson from last season’s successful squad have already put pen to paper, and the remainder should be signed up this week.

Matthew Baxter, a midfielder, who was last season with Stamford, Callum Congreve, a defender, from Maltby Main, and goalkeeper Simon Lillie from neighbours Holbrook Sports are the three new faces so far who will join the club.
