2nds Winning draw at Romiley...
A tightly faught game between two good sides on a lovely sunny day away at Romiley. Mersey lost the toss and were put into bat first. A quick start saw Mersey reach 50-1 off 10 overs. Zeb and Asim once again providing a solid start.
Unfortunately two quick wickets saw the scoring rate slow down and Abbas formed the back bone of the innings with a great knock of 51. The middle over scoring was slow and steady. Some great late impetus by the hard hitting Akeel (with 4 massive sixes) saw Mersey reach a competitive total of 199, one short of maximum batting points.
Then came a stellar bowling performance by Mersey. The Romiley openers got off to a steady start before the ever dependable Cheema came on to bowl his guile filled legspin and got a wicket in his first over.
Then begun a good spell of tandem bowling between Cheema and Amar who took 6 wickets between them with good back up bowling by Gurdy taking 3 of his own vital wickets.
The match came down to a last over thriller with Mersey requiring one Romiley wicket to win the match, despite all the effort it ended up as a winning draw and the 2nds maintain there undefeated run. A special mention to the contender for catch of the season by Joe Glare, a full length dive in the deep to take an amazing catch that gave a new life to the Mersey bowling performance.
Well done Mersey 2nds for a great team effort .
